Advances and Perspectives in Auditory Neuroscience: A Comprehensive Overview of Key Conferences
The field of auditory neuroscience is constantly evolving, with new research and technological advancements emerging regularly. Attending conferences is crucial for researchers, students, and professionals to stay updated, network, and share their latest findings. This article provides an overview of key conferences in auditory neuroscience, including the Advances and Perspectives in Auditory Neuroscience (APAN), the International Symposium on Auditory and Audiological Research (ISAAR), and the Cognitive Neuroscience Society (CNS) Annual Meeting.

Advances and Perspectives in Auditory Neuroscience (APAN)
Advances and Perspectives in Auditory Neuroscience (APAN) is dedicated to promoting research in central auditory neuroscience. Since its inception in 2003, APAN has offered a valuable platform for both young and established researchers to network, discuss common interests, and share their latest, unpublished work, timed just before the annual meeting of the Society for Neuroscience (SfN). APAN aims to showcase cutting-edge research, support the professional growth of its younger members, and honor the achievements of distinguished community members through a keynote lecture.
Keynote lectures will be presented by leading experts in the field. Presentations at APAN include short talks, poster teaser talks, and posters. The APAN Organizing Committee evaluates submitted abstracts with a blind review process, ensuring impartiality. A selection of these submissions is then chosen for podium presentations or brief poster teasers during the meeting. Posters are showcased during two dedicated poster sessions.
Registration Information:
- Registration fee: $85 for students and postdocs, $150 for faculty and other non-trainees.
- Advance registration is required.
International Symposium on Auditory and Audiological Research (ISAAR)
Abstract submission for the International Symposium on Auditory and Audiological Research (ISAAR) is now open. In addition to the main themes, ISAAR welcomes contributions on a broad range of topics, including:
- Perceptual and physiological measures of auditory function
- Measures of hearing loss
- Auditory modeling
- Hearing-instrument signal processing
- Aided outcome measures
- Multi-sensory speech perception
- Communication in complex environments
- Advances in neurotechnology
- Cognitive auditory neuroscience
Contributions aligned with the symposium themes may be considered for either an oral presentation or a poster. For ISAAR, the conference proceedings will consist only of abstracts.
Important Dates:
- Abstract submission deadline: 15.
- Notification of acceptance: 15.
The ISAAR committee offers a limited number of scholarships for young scientists (e.g., students, postdocs, and others). The scholarship covers the symposium fee, including full participation and accommodation.
Cognitive Neuroscience Society (CNS) Annual Meeting
We invite you to join us at the Cognitive Neuroscience Society (CNS) Annual Meeting in Vancouver, BC, Canada! Each year The Cognitive Neuroscience Society holds an annual meeting in the spring. The purpose of the meeting is to bring together researchers from around the world to share the latest studies in cognitive neuroscience. The Cognitive Neuroscience Society works diligently to schedule the annual meeting in a way that minimizes conflicts with other conferences, religious observances, and major political or social events. However, due to the numerous factors involved in planning, it is not always possible to avoid all potential conflicts.
The CNS annual meeting features Invited Symposia, Symposia, Several Poster Sessions, a Keynote Address as well as our Annual George A.
The Cognitive Neuroscience Society is committed to providing a safe and professional environment during our annual meeting. All CNS members are expected to conduct themselves in a business-like and professional manner.

The Value of Attending Conferences
Attending conferences provides excellent opportunities to present your work, get feedback, and see what other research labs are up to. Conferences are also great to develop informal and formal networks. As a trainee, you may run into your future supervisor, external examiner, or fellow trainees from other institutions who may become friends, colleagues, collaborators, reviewers, etc.
Local Conferences in Southern Ontario
There are a few local, southern Ontario conferences, which may be especially appealing to undergraduate and early graduate trainees. There are probably more conferences out there that may be relevant to us. The ones listed here are a selection of conferences we frequently attend to or have attended to in the past.
| Conference | Location | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| APAN | Varies | Central Auditory Neuroscience |
| ISAAR | Varies | Auditory and Audiological Research |
| CNS Annual Meeting | Varies | Cognitive Neuroscience |
